AmStar Responds to Foreclosure Epidemic
Thursday, May 28th 2009
Sarasota, FL
As foreclosure rates continue to soar, the legal profession struggles to keep pace with the demands of homeowners seeking protection. Outdated state laws, such as fast-track foreclosures, "rocket dockets" and excessive penalties are exacerbating the national foreclosure epidemic- a reality reflected by the burgeoning number of these cases brought before the Florida Courts. AmStar Litigation Support will offer a Continuing Legal Education course, "Foreclosure Defense - Recession Proof Your Practice" in five Florida cities from June through August 2009. This course offers an overview of the Federal and Florida laws regarding Foreclosure Defense and is designed to provide attorneys with the fundamental knowledge and resources they need to build a successful practice. The first seminar will take place Tuesday, June 16, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota, Boulevard of the Arts, Sarasota.
AmStar CLE: "Foreclosure Defense - Recession Proof Your Practice" introduces a new model for continuing legal education that is designed to mobilize attorneys toward the growing demands of Florida homeowners seeking legal representation. Some experts estimate that as many as 10,000 foreclosures occur every day in the United States, and nearly 10 million families are at risk of foreclosure in 2009.
The seminar will feature a panel of prominent speakers including Margaret Bowles, Gary Meringer and Dan McCarthy. Ms. Bowles offers unique experience in foreclosure and bankruptcy law; with over 1000 property foreclosures for Citigroup, Ford Commercial Credit and Household Finance. Mr. Meringer, a graduate of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and Duke University Law School and Graduate Business School (FUQUA), is a seasoned corporate and securities lawyer with over 30 years experience, both in-house and private practice and has specialized in large corporate transactions, securities registrations, complex litigation, ethics and integrity. Mr. McCarthy has over twenty years of private practice experience focusing on banking, real estate and bankruptcy. He is admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court, the Supreme Courts of multiple states, multiple appellate courts, both state and federal, and a number of federal courts of original and appellate jurisdictions.
The seminar is accredited for 7.5 Florida CLE credits, including 0.5 hours of ethics. Topics of the course will include Ethics, Securitization, Pleading and Procedure, Substantive Mortgage Loan Law, Loan auditing and more. Early registration fees (i.e., received or postmarked 10 days prior to the program date) are $395. On-site registration fees are $495. Participants will be invited to attend a complimentary same-day luncheon on "How to Build a Successful Foreclosure Defense Practice."
